I do a lot of international travel, often to places where Western civilization has yet to tread. Since I was usually disappointed with the bookings made by my travel agent, I decided to try and go it alone. Fortunately, with the advent of the Internet, this has become quite simple.
Nowadays, I find it much easier, quicker and efficient to make my bookings online. As a matter of fact, I haven't spoken to a travel agent for years.
Here, then, is a list of the favorite sites I use for planning my trip and booking. Enjoy. (And hey - if you have some favorite travel sites, don't be shy. Send them on to us, and we'll add them here.) |
| >>CAR HIRE |

|
Car hire is usually a must for me on my business trips. EasyCar is one of the best car hire sites I have found, especially for off-the-beaten-track countries I seem to find myself in all the time, where high street rental companies do not have an outstanding presence. Prices are very competitive, and service is great. They often offer special offers too - give them a try next time you need a car. |

| >>TRIP PLANNING |
 |
Trip Advisor is a site based on reviews sent in by travelers from all over the world. I use the site to access unbiased ratings of hotels, attractions & restaurants. They also feature great deals for your specific travel dates, as well as top travel information and guidebooks. |
 |
Lonely Planet publishes guide books and travel information for just about any country you can think of. The online version is very comprehensive, but I like to have a guide book handy with me on my travels. A Lonely Planet staffer reviews everything personally, so the information is accurate, and I have found a lot of great places - from museums to fantastic out-of-the-way restaurants with these guides. My guide book of choice, they are warmly recommended. Sometimes (usually) my local bookstore doesn't have the title I'm looking for, so I usually get mine directly from the website. (Lonely Planet always has everything in stock, and offers free shipping for orders over $40, making it especially easy). |
