We
have found the RV travel organization is the backbone
of a succesful, enjoyable family vacation. We
love to take our RV vacations in a group of friends
and/or family. While we also meet lots of great
people on the road, we love to vacation with our
loved ones.
A
large group traveling together is a potential
powder-keg of conflict and frustration, so we
have found that the key to success is to plan
ahead and organize the vacation before we leave.
My
wife, who is the crowned queen of RV travel organization,
starts the ball rolling by taking a two-part poll
from all the participants, children and adults
alike. Because planning a vacation like this can
be quite complex, the poll is taken quite a few
months before the intended departure date.
The
first part of the poll is basically technical,
and only adults are invited to participate. The
poll determines the vacation destination and addresses
various logistical issues. We always try to go
to places none of us has ever visited before,
and we have sometimes wound up in pretty exotic
locations. Often, this means we have to fly out,
so vehicles have to be rented, we have to decide
what additional equipment should be brought along,
etc. Once the results are in, a single group member
is made responsible for finding suitable vehicles
for all of us.
The
second part of the poll relates to the fun part,
and is addressed to all group participants. We
usually try to arrange our group RV vacations
in a mobile- stationary mode, which means we travel
and sightsee one day and stay stationary the next.
This means we have ample time to see all the interesting
sights and can also plan various sports activities
and other outdoor fun like fishing, golf, swimming
or anything else that strikes your fancy. This
stop-go system has proved very effective and ensures
that everybody has a great time.
Another
thing the poll does effectively is arrange the
chore schedule: who cooks on what days, who babysits
when the others do something together - even down
to if, where and when we eat out.
We have found that this daily schedule helps us
organize the chaos created when we (or any group,
actually) get together for joint activities, reduces
the unevitable friction and generally makes for
a very enjoyable family vacation. RV travel organization
- we don't leave home without it!
