JOURNEY START>CLASS B MOTORHOME

Class B Motorhome

Essentially fancy vans, Class B motorhomes have progressed far since the early days of van conversions.

You will find that today's Class B motorhomes can be as fully appointed as many a full-sized motorhome. They are also much easier to maneuver in urban settings, and are much easier to use, especially for drivers who are not accustomed to driving large vehicles.

Class B motorhomes are very popular as rental vehicles, especially in Europe. They are also popular with former full-time RV addicts who want to continue RVing on occasion but don't want the upkeep and expense of owning a large Class A motorhome, or for families with older children who need a vehicle that gets more than just weekend use.

Class B Motorhomes :: Advantages

Today's Class B motorhomes are usually fully self-contained RVs, including built- in shower, toilet, kitchen, TV and entertainment center, couches, dining area and beds. It is easy to move from the driving to passage compartment even while the vehicle is in motion, so any required items can easily be retrieved from storing compartments in the back.

Class B motorhomes are relatively compact and are therefore easier to handle compared to the larger motorhomes, especially if the driver is not used to handling large vehicles.

The smaller size makes a Class B easier to park and maneuver in an urban environment and in camper parking areas.

While Class B gas mileage may not be great, driving to and from work, or transporting the soccer team around on occasion is not out of the question.

Class B Motorhomes :: Disadvantages

Compared to a full-sized motorhome, Class Bs are small. In most models, a person over six-foot tall will find it virtually impossible to stand erect. If you intend to purchase a motorhome, many great used larger motorhomes can be bought for a similar price.

Driving in a Class B motorhome, it can be hard to remember sometimes that you're not just driving a van. This can cause a problem if you drive under a low over hang or bridge and fail to calculate the two or three extra feet of RV on your roof!
